In the last 24 hours, 9622 coronavirus infections were registered in Norway. This is 1701 more than on the same day last week and by far the highest number in a day during a pandemic.

In the last seven days, an average of 6865 infections were recorded per day. The corresponding average seven days ago was 4240, so the trend is rising.

277 COVID-19 patients were hospitalized on Tuesday. There were seven more of them than the day before.

85 patients are in the intensive care unit and 64 of them are under a ventilator. According to a review by the Norwegian Directorate of Health, there are seven fewer people in intensive care and one more on a ventilator compared to the day before.

More than 450 people have been diagnosed with the coronavirus

According to the National Institute of Public Health, a total of 460 people in Norway have tested positive for the coronavirus. Previous 530-hour record for Norway it was January 6, 2022, when 8385 infections were recorded.

According to preliminary data, a total of 2020 people infected with COVID-1350 have died in Norway since March 19.

Restrictions expire

The measures put in place by the government ahead of Christmas expire on Friday this week and a new assessment will be made.

– We have looked at many of the measures implemented as well as the overall situation. Not only because of how it works in the city now healthcare service and hospitals. It forms the basis of the advice we give and the government will then consider it with sectors of society other than the health sector, Deputy Health Director Espen Nakstad told NRK on Tuesday.

He believes that the measures that were introduced just over a month ago had a very good impact on the infection situation, including through a much slower growth of the omicron variant compared to other countries. There was also no significant increase in the number of hospital admissions.
