Vestland District Doctor began oversight of Bergen hospitals last November. After the patient was denied healthcare.

The background for the audit is a complaint from the Health Center for Illegal Migrants, which was sent to a government administrator in western Norway a month earlier, writes Bergens Tidende . The patient was not legally resident in Norway. He had cancer and was referred for treatment at Haukeland University Hospital and Haraldsplass Diaconal Hospital.

- A referral from a doctor has been rejected. The person was denied treatment by both Haraldsplass and Haukeland. They believed that he was not entitled to health care. The patient, unfortunately, is dead, district doctor Sjur Lehmann tells the newspaper.

He claims that they cannot comment on the causal factors or whether the healthcare provided to the patient was justified prior to the information and assessment of the case by the State Administrator.

Haukeland University Hospital believes he has followed the rules. It does not make a specific statement on the matter due to the obligation of confidentiality and the pending supervisory matter.

- We believe that we have complied with the provisions in this matter, but this is a supervisory matter that will become clearer. Overall, we can say that we provide the necessary immediate help to all those who seek it. Regardless of your status in the National Registry, says Communications Director Erik Vigander in Haukeland.

Haraldsplass does not currently comment on whether or not they complied with the rules.

- But it is important that the matter is clarified. It's a sad thing, says Petter Thornam.
