The National Institute of Public Health is encouraging schools and kindergartens to organize a head lice campaign in weeks 10 and 35. If lice control and treatment are carried out at the same time, it is possible that the head lice population will decline.

`` We recently approached all schools and kindergartens across the country to inform parents and carers about how best to check for and possibly treat head lice, says researcher Bjørn Arne Rukke in the pest control section of the National Institute of Public Health.

Head lice are a recurring problem in schools and kindergartens. It is estimated that about 1-2 percent of all people have lice at any given time children in Norway. If people with lice are treated at the same time, this will help reduce the number of cases over time.

- Precisely because it is so important that as many people as possible participate in the national inspection, says Rukke.

At the same time, she points out that it is best to carry out a comb inspection at least once a month. All this so that the lice are detected earlier and as a result the risk of infecting others is minimized.

Notify the school or kindergarten

Begin treatment immediately if you discover head lice and notify the school or kindergarten so they can re-notify other parents. Parents of the child's closest friends should also be notified so that their children can also be tested and possibly cured.
