In recognition of Poland's key role in supporting refugees fleeing the invasion of Ukraine, the "Stand Up For Ukraine" ceremony was held in Warsaw on April 9. A conference convened by the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, and the Prime Minister of Canada, Justin Trudeau.
The President of the Republic of Poland, Andrzej Duda, alongside the President von der Leyen, and Prime Minister Trudeau took part remotely.
This event concludes a wider social media campaign launched by the European Commission and the Canadian government on Saturday 26 March in collaboration with the international organization Global citizen .
The aim of the campaign is to raise funds and other support for the needs of internally displaced persons Ukraine and refugees. The campaign is a response to the appeal for support issued by the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky.
6,5 million are internally displaced. In addition, the European Union accepts over 3,8 million refugees. Poland accepts over 2,5 million refugees and plays an important role as a humanitarian center by sending support to Ukraine from all over Europe.
As there is no end to the conflict, additional funding is needed to meet the needs of Ukraine's IDPs and refugees.
A huge amount was raised.
Stand Up For Ukraine aims to mobilize funding from governments, institutions, artists, companies and individuals. Any type of support is important for the needs of IDPs in Ukraine and refugees.
Artists from all over the world have already joined the campaign. Among the many are Bono, Madonna, Elton John, Miley Cyrus, Adam Lambert, Céline Dion or Alanis Morissette and many others.
Today, an enormous amount of EUR 10,1 billion has been collected for the refugee target. This is a pledged amount by many countries, governments, institutions, artists, companies and individuals from all over the world.
