Effective January 1, the Directorate of Higher Education and Skills (HK-dir) took over responsibility for the foreign education approval systems previously managed by NOKUT.

Let us first remind you what is NOKUT? Based on the translation from the official website (https://www.nokut.no/). "NOKUT - National Agency for Quality in Education - is a professional independent administrative body under the Ministry of Education and Research." The basic goals of the organization are:

  • ensuring and promoting high-quality education,
  • monitoring and informing about changes in foreign education. In the case of important and noteworthy aspects of its implementation in education in Norway.

Information will be available at nokut.no

While HK-dir now assumes formal responsibility for the applications that have been received since early 2023, information about the various options for approving education will remain on nokut.no for the time being. But that will be temporary, says Skule of the Directorate for Higher Education and Skills.

"We don't want users to have to deal with several temporary solutions in a short amount of time, so we want to have a permanent solution before we move information." Our goal is to introduce this before the summer, says Skule.

Application portal closed until February 1

Due to the transfer of the application portal, from December 1, 2022, it is closed for new applications. It will return to its place and will be ready to accept new applications from February 1.

All incoming applications registered before December 1, 2022 have been automatically forwarded to the Directorate for Higher Education and Skills, so that users do not need to take any action until the application portal is reopened.

Takeover of Nokut employees

NOKUT Director Kristin Vinje thanks her former colleagues for their good efforts and good and constructive cooperation during the transition phase. He wishes them all the best.

“HK-dir is lucky to recruit so many talented employees into its ranks. I would like to thank them for the effort they have made over the years. At NOKUT, they have built an internationally recognized professional environment in the validation of foreign education. I'm sure this will be further developed in HK-dir, says Vinje.
