Chess tournament in Prague. Grand final. The emotions were huge. During yesterday's seventh round, Jan Krzysztof Duda won with Radosław Wojtaszek. Thus, he placed right behind Samuel Shankland. The difference is only a half-point. The big winner of the whole event, however, turned out to be an American who defeated Jordan Van Foreester in a beautiful style yesterday.
Chess tournament in Prague. Poles this time without a draw ...
Duda defeated Wojtaszek. Thus taking the second place in the tournament. This time we do not have a tie in our team, but until the last moments it was not so obvious. Everything happened without much advantage until move 34, in which Wojtaszek, who played black, made the losing move with the jumper. Two more passed and he surrendered the game.
“I think the game was interesting and of very good quality. I had a slight advantage after the debut, but nothing special, so there was a risk that everything would simplify and the duel would end in a draw. I tried my best to maintain this initiative. At some point, I decided to make an interesting sacrifice. I gave a bishop for three pawns. I objectively assessed that this is an unequal position, but one that I dictate. Just Radek did not notice one winning idea and with one move, you could say, he substituted the whole game. It ended happily and quickly for me. I admit that after my win I counted on overtime for the first place, expecting that Shankland's game would be a draw, but he also lucky in the last match, even a lot, so in the end he won the tournament. All in all, he deservedly, because he played quite confidently throughout the event "- commented for PAP grandmaster Duda, deployed in Prague with number 1 (Radio Opole.pl).
Poles are very high in chess games ...
The chess tournament and the high positions of our Polish representatives are perfect proof that chess is another discipline in which... Poles have something to say. It is worth noting that the participation of Duda and Wojtaszek is not the only accent Polish during the tournament. We must highlight the victory of grandmaster Marcin Kryżanowski in the open tournament. Congratulations!
