Norway and the UK are to cooperate more closely on hydrogen. An annex to the Norwegian-British declaration on cooperation in the field of carbon capture and storage (CCS) was signed today.

“We have been working well with the UK on CCS for many years. Therefore, it is very good that we are now strengthening the partnership also in the field of hydrogen. Hydrogen can play an important role in reducing greenhouse gas emissions. This is where we can make good use of each other's experiences, says Oil and Energy Minister Terje Aasland.

The event brought together many Norwegian and British business actors

The annex confirms the extended cooperation between the authorities of the countries. It defines e.g. regular exchange of knowledge and experience related to the use of hydrogen in industry, production of low-emission hydrogen, transport and storage, as well as the development and certification of standards. The annex was signed during the opening of a business seminar in connection with the visit of the royal couple to Great Britain. The event also brought together many Norwegian and British business actors from the energy industry.

Last year, Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre and then British Prime Minister Boris Johnson signed a joint declaration on strategic cooperation, among others in the field of green transformation.
