The police, the mayor and the fylkeskommune Innlandet council are encouraging everyone who does not have to travel and use the roads to stay at home. This applies primarily to provincial roads in the western part of Innlandet, i.e. Oppland.
For public safety, it is important that roads prone to flooding and landslides have as little traffic as possible, the three agencies said Monday evening.
County Emergency Manager Asbjørn Lund in the Interior State Administration, Chief of Staff Pål Erik Teigen in the Internal Police District and Traffic Manager Aud M. Riseng in the fylkeskommune Innlandet are absolutely certain that the call to stay at home for the next 24 hours.
Only necessary driving
– There are those who have to drive, for example, emergency services, those who work on road maintenance and service employees in municipalities. It's important that they get there - says the poviat head of the ambulance service.
Chief of Staff Teigen in the Police also emphasizes that now traffic on the roads should be as small as possible to avoid road accidentsthat could prevent necessary traffic, as well as for the safety of road users.
Damage you can't see
– The Fylkeskommune has all available construction machinery and road personnel, mainly in Oppland, to detect damage and close dangerous roads. However, when it gets dark, it can be difficult to detect damage, especially where the road has been washed away, says the transport manager.
