Article updated.

As we read on the Statens vegvesen website, there are many closed roads in eastern Norway. Statens vegvesen advises that if you can leave your car.

– We encourage residents of the affected areas to stay at home if possible, says Cato Løkken of the Norwegian Public Roads Authority.

– We just closed national road 3, so now all main roads between Oslo and Trondheim are closed. Things are very unpredictable and can change quickly, so if you have to travel you should check if the road is open before you go, insists Cato Løkken.

On Thursday morning, August 10, the following major roads are closed:

  • E6 between Dombås and Oppdal
  • E6 between Nord-Fron and Sør-Fron
  • Rv 3 between Rena and Alvdal
  • Rv 7 between Hønefoss and Geilo
  • E16 in Bagn (updated at 11.36: due to an error it was previously reported that E16 was closed at Nes in Romerike. It should be E16 Nes in Ringerike, but the road is now open there).
  • Rv 15 Ottadalen
  • E134 between Mjøndalen and Hokksund
  • E6 in Lillehammer

A total of 125 roads in southern Norway are currently closed. Most are county roads.

These roads are open

For those traveling between the south and north of the country, county road 30 is open to traffic, but is closed to vehicles over 3,5 tonnes GVW at the Holt Bridge in Holtålen.  For east-west travel, the E134 road is open over the mountain, but is closed between Mjøndalen and Hokksund.

Norwegian Board Public Roads works 24 hours a day on the road network and along it.

“However, I emphasize that people who do not need to travel to these areas are asked to stay at home. The road network is currently vulnerable, so don't hesitate to postpone your trip if you can, says Løkken.
