“Now it is important that we provide health care to those affected. Therefore, it is good that specialists from the University Hospital in Oslo can help municipalities affected by extreme weather conditions. The community must stand up and help ensure that help reaches those who need it, says Health and Welfare Minister Ingvild Kjerkol.

Kjerkol praises the professionals in the municipality, who are in a very demanding situation

Oslo University Hospital now sends to Hallingdal two medical teams consisting of a total of 18 people. First, the teams are transported to the municipality of Ål, where they will be deployed in the evenings and at night to help in the local healthcare service and care. An assessment will be made tomorrow morning whether there have been any changes in the situation which indicate that other affected municipalities will also receive help from the teams.

Teams include team leaders, doctors, nurses and paramedics

Several people working in the municipal utility healthcare service have been evacuated, isolated or otherwise prevented from applying for jobs. As a result, the municipality has difficulty recruiting health and care staff in the municipalities, and surrounding municipalities are unable to provide medical staff due to road closures.

The Norwegian Directorate of Health and the OUS are in direct dialogue with the municipalities to clarify how health teams can be used in the best possible way.
