During nationwide inspections by the National Roads Authority last week, 7 bus passengers were checked on buses.
With its inspections, the Norwegian Public Roads Authority reminds how important it is to wear seat belts - also in buses. At the same time, it conveys how great the potential damage can be in the event of an accident.
Of all those checked, 354 were not wearing seat belts.
Most passengers were checked in Vestland (1562), followed by Viken (1044), closely followed by Agder (1033).
– Our goal is to make it as big as possible number of people was more aware of the rules of wearing seat belts also in buses and that it becomes a good habit, just like wearing a seat belt in a car. Any increase in seat belt use above current levels is positive, says project manager Ingvild Ryengen-Bjerke of the Norwegian Public Roads Administration.

– By fastening your seat belts, you also contribute to the safety of other people on the bus! You become like a bullet if you sit on the bus unsecured and not wearing a seat belt, and then an accident will happen.
Wearing a seat belt on a bus is a free insurance policy that everyone should take advantage of, says Bodil Rønning Dreyer, director of the traffic and vehicles department at the Norwegian Public Roads Administration.

– In this film, we tried to create our own black belt hero and tell the story of the journey from no belt to black belt, hence the name "Black Belt on the Bus". We hope that we have created an unforgettable story that, most importantly, will encourage more people to wear black belts on buses, concludes Ryengen-Bjerke.
