Norway is ready to provide aid after a landslide in Stenungsund, Sweden

Swedish Transport Minister Andreas Carlson told Sveriges Radio that he spoke to his Norwegian colleague Jon-Ivar Nygård on Sunday.

It was Saturday night when a large landslide in Stenungsund, north of Gothenburg, left the E6 road damaged for several hundred meters.

It is too early to determine what contribution Norway can make.

– The next step will tell. There is currently an ongoing review and investigation into what happened, and then we will finally see which aid agencies will be needed, Carlson says.

– I understand that it's Norwegian  Road Administration Public has equipment to safely map landslide areas, including drilling rigs that can be mounted on long-arm excavators and a mobile geotechnical laboratory, says Nygård.

Dialogue with the Swedish Transport Administration

The Norwegian Public Roads Administration also contacted its colleagues at the Swedish Transport Authority and offered assistance.

Special equipment was developed for a drilling tower connected to an excavator and a mobile, state-of-the-art geotechnical laboratory for testing sensitive short-travel samples. The equipment in Skien is on standby.

Reconstruction may cost several billion Swedish krona

The Swedish authorities have so far carried out a SAR operation in the avalanche area and are currently working on traffic management and area protection measures.

The collapse of the E6 motorway near Gothenburg will also cause traffic jams in Sweden. In the near term, this will mean that a longer distance will have to be covered due to the detour in Sweden. The Swedish Transport Administration is currently working on the duration and winter consequences in terms of winter operations and delays.

A Sweco analyst estimates that the reconstruction of this area may cost several billion Swedish kronor.
