The government will spend NOK 12,5 billion to strengthen air defense in Norway. Overall, this is the largest single investment in air defense in 30 years. With this investment, the government is helping to strengthen our national readiness, and we will replace the air defense donated to Ukraine as soon as possible, says Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre.
The government proposes investments in new, modern missiles for today's air defense. In addition, all air defense equipment will be replaced Norwegia handed over to Ukraine.
The war in Ukraine has shown that air defense is absolutely crucial. Thanks to this investment Norway gains a modern air defense system with a missile that can target at both short, medium and longer distances. The takeover takes place in record time.
– Now we are taking a step towards a new generation of air defense. We are at a turning point for security in Europe and Norway urgently needs to implement modern air defense, says Minister of Defense Bjørn Arild Gram.

The package that represents the government, contains:
- Three different rockets for NASAMS with shorter, medium and longer ranges
- Eight launch units and four fire control centers for NASAMS
- A new missile for anti-aircraft combat vehicles
Rockets for NASAMS are mainly replacements for older material, while the remaining material is a replacement for the material transferred to Ukraine. Of the total amount, 12,5 NOK billion, approximately NOK 5,1 billion is re-attainment of donations financed by the Nansen program, while approximately NOK 7,4 billion is funds from the regular budget for the continuation of the long-term plan. Funds will be disbursed for few years.
