Do you need help with snow removal, lawn mowing or other unexpected work at home or in your summer cottage? You can pay a person up to NOK 6000 tax-free for your help. Salaries are usually taxable, but there are exceptions for minor jobs.
If you want to pay someone to carry out small work done for or for you, you can pay them up to NOK 6000 tax-free. The amount limit applies to payments from a household (community) to one person. You or you can pay NOK 6000 several persons without being subject to taxation. The amount applies to payments in a calendar year.
– It should be easy to do the right thing when you pay someone to do small chores around your house and garden. That's why we set a limit of NOK 6000 to make this possible, says Elisabeth Fischer, director at the tax office.
The only thing you need to watch out for is that the person doing the job is not doing it within their own scope business.
Additional tax-free help
- A lot of people needs extra helpwhen winter comes. Then it's good to remind them that we have a free from limit tax on the amount, which you can pay for the work you do. This will be a great way to give young people a little something vacancies from tax, says Fischer.
The condition is that the person performing the work acts as a private person to work was involved only with a house or summer house. In case of other work limit free amount from tax is NOK 1000 per year.
Tax-free payments do not have to be reported to the tax office.
What will you do if you pay more?
If you pay a person a salary exceeding NOK 6000, the entire payment amount must be reported to the Tax Office in "Registration of paid work from home". This amount is then pre-entered on the salary recipient's tax return and they, unless they have a tax exemption card, must pay tax on the income.
If your household pays more than NOK 60 in total for a year help of people private, you are considered an employer. In this situation, you must also pay tax as an employer and file ordinær a-melding. This applies regardless of whether the individual amounts do not exceed NOK 6000.
