Small and medium-sized enterprises constitute a large proportion of all enterprises in Norway. A recent survey found that many people in this group believe that running their own business has become easier in recent years.

More than 6000 small and medium-sized businesses responded to the survey conducted by Fiken, a company that offers accounting services to this client group. While 33 percent respondents believe that running their own business has become easier in recent years, 9% replied that this did not happen at all. A number of proposals for further simplification were also submitted. Suggestions they concern regulations regarding starting a business, accounting and bookkeeping principles, information and guidelines, mandatory fines, and ending with taxes and fees.

Companies in Norway generally have good framework conditions

– What is very positive is the fact that 1 in 3 respondents believe that running their own business has become easier. This shows that companies in Norway generally have good framework conditions. But we have by no means achieved our goal and we are working to make running a business even easier. We depend on the views of businesses themselves on what needs to be simplified. Therefore, the information we have received now and the information we have received before will be important in the future. I will also look at this in connection with work on the new Storting report on entrepreneurs and start-ups, says Business Minister Jan Christian Vestre.

Most companies in Norway these are small companies that do not have their own HR or budget departments. More than 95 percent of all Norwegian companies employ fewer than 50 employees.

– Running a business in Norway should be as easy as possible. So that a craftsman, hairdresser or IT entrepreneur can spend time on creating value and jobs, instead of dealing with paperwork. That is why in our work we have set ourselves an ambitious goal to simplify the everyday life of entrepreneurs - says Minister of Business Jan Christian Vestre.
