– On this day, I would like to congratulate the residents, employees and politicians of the established regions, and also end with the launch of new units – says City and County Minister Erling Sande.

Employees of starostes and communes put a lot of effort into preparing the new units. The Mapping Authority and other government agencies have also done a great deal of work preparing and launching county and municipal councils.

The government provided the three new provinces and the municipality of Ålesund with compensation for the necessary one-off costs of carrying out the divisions, in the total amount of NOK 795,2 million.

The Storting approved the divisions in 2022

In the fall of 2021, the government gave the forcibly merged voivodeships and municipalities the option of division. The division was requested by three provinces (Troms and Finnmark, Viken, Vestfold and Telemark) and one municipality (Ålesund). Deposit approved the divisions in June 2022.
