The 2018 Nobel Peace Prize has already been awarded. Both the Congolese physician Denis Mukwege and the Iraqi Nadia Murad received it. The announcement of the Nobel Committee's decision took place today (Friday, October 05.10.2018, 11) at 00:XNUMX am at the Norwegian Nobel Institute in Oslo.

They fight war crimes

The 2018 Nobel Peace Prize was awarded to people who actively work to combat war crimes. The chairman of the Nobel Committee, Berit Reiss-Andersen, informed about the decision of the Nobel Committee at 11:00. Together, it was decided that the winners this year will be the Congolese doctor Denis Mukwege and the Iraqi Nadia Murad.

Nadia was the victim herself

Particularly noteworthy is the fact that the awardee, Nadia Murad, was herself a victim of war crimes. The Nobel Committee's justification states that: "She did not accept social patterns that ordered women to remain silent when they were victims of rape, abuse and other forms of violence. She showed extraordinary courage, thanks to which she decided to speak about the wrongs she had suffered, as well as the suffering of other women.

Nadia Murad is now 25 and is a Yazidi from Northern Iraq. As a result of the attack by the Islamic State in 2014, Yazidis from this region became victims of attacks by extremists. The laureate herself was kidnapped and then repeatedly raped. After three months of imprisonment, she managed to escape.

This is not the first distinction of Denis Mukwege

The 2018 Nobel Peace Prize was also awarded to the Congolese gynecologist - Denis Mukwege. He specializes in helping victims of gang rapes that escalated during the Second Congo Civil War. His activities did not appeal to the militants to such an extent that in 2012 they attacked the house of this year's Nobel Prize winner and tried to kill him.

Pokoja The 2018 Nobel Prize is not the only distinction awarded to Denis. In 2008, the United Nations awarded him the Human Rights Award, and in 2013, he won the Right Livelihood Award for: "For courageous work for women who have experienced wartime sexual violence and for boldly speaking about the deep causes of this violence"He was already nominated for the Nobel Prize in 2014.

Nobel Peace Prize 2018 - no contact

The chairwoman of the Nobel Committee, Berit Reiss-Andersen, admitted that she was unable to contact this year's Nobel laureates. Neither Denis Mukwege nor Nadia Murad answered phone calls. “If they are watching the broadcast now, I would like to convey my congratulations to them,” added Berit Reiss-Andersen.
