Any request addressed to NAV for granting social assistance is considered individually. There are no statutory thresholds on the basis of which the amount of benefit is determined. The decision rests with the officials, and the role of the applicant is to thoroughly document his or her life situation so that NAV is able to understand the case as thoroughly as possible.

How to apply for social assistance in Norway?

To get social assistance in Norway, contact your nearest one NAV offices. There is usually one in each municipality. There is usually an initial interview, thanks to which employees are able to determine the actual life situation and the documents that will need to be attached to the application.

The amount of the benefit awarded is determined after verifying such issues as: Income, expenses, living situation, family situation, place of residence, age, health condition and family needs, in particular children and young people in terms of recreation and meeting their needs school.
