Lonely pendler - how to get this status and who is entitled to it?

Obtaining the pendlr status entitles you to take advantage of many income tax deductions. There is a common belief that it is only available to people who work in Norway and their family life takes place in Poland, to which they often travel. However, as practice shows, single people can also benefit from these tax preferences.

Who is a lone pendler?

The status of a lonely pendler can be obtained in two cases: if a person has an apartment in Poland or travels to his parents. However, there are some limitations in this regard.

A lonely pendler with an apartment in Poland must meet the following conditions:

- be more than 22 years old

- not to be married and work in a Norwegian company in 2017

- to rent or own an apartment in Poland from at least 2016

- rented apartment in Norway does not exceed 30 m per person

- living in Poland is at least twice as large as in Norwegian

- trips to Poland take place at least once every 3 weeks

A lone pendler traveling to his parents however, it must meet the following conditions:

- be less than 21 years old

- have a joint registration with parents throughout 2017

- the trip to the parents takes place at least once every 6 weeks

Why is it worth obtaining this status?

There are many benefits associated with the pendler status, primarily from the point of view of obtaining tax preferences. This is due to the possibility of deducting part of the costs from income tax will lower its height. This applies in particular to the following expenses:

- travel expenses between Poland and Norway

- related expenses with independent commuting to work

– rent bills and electricity incurred in Norway

- daily diet resulting from nutritional needs - min. 205 NOK / day

How do you get this status when billing?

In order to take advantage of the benefits resulting from the pendler status, you must: settlement, attach a few necessary documents. They are as follows:

- a document confirming the amount of income earned from the employer for 2017

- documents confirming receipt of NAV benefit, if applicable

– PIN/minID codes, necessary for login in the Altinn system – used to make settlements via the Internet

- confirmation of travel between Poland and Norway - the name and surname of the traveler must be on them, who must inform about the size and living conditions

– documents confirming the fact of owning or disposing of apartments in Poland and Norway

– birth certificate on print EU – applies to people traveling to visit their parents

Good to know…

People who have contracted mortgage they can also deduct the amount resulting from interest from tax. If such an obligation is incurred in Norway, the bank will automatically submit the necessary documents to the Tax Office.

If, after some time, it turns out that you could have applied for tax relief due to, for example, pendler status, nothing is lost. You can apply for it for up to two years. Just assemble tax correctionand attach all necessary documents confirming the right to the discount.
