Many companies, especially in the catering industry, have been hit hard by restrictions on infection control. The catering industry makes a living from being visited by customers. Now, with the strict restrictions on infection control in place today, that is unfortunately not possible. Several companies reported beer should be discarded and food discarded due to its use-by date. Now companies will get money to pay for expired products, says Trade and Industry Minister Iselin Nybø.

- The program is intended to help those companies that have lost a lot during the period of the strictest infection control measures in place. If the conditions for compensation are met, the entire loss will be covered, says Nybø.

The condition for covering losses in the form of lost inventories is that they are fresh goods. This is true for food and flower commodities, and that the loss is due to an order to stop serving alcohol or seal it. The requirement of a 30% drop in turnover also applies to companies that want to cover lost inventories. The government proposes that in order to claim compensation for losses for the period from November 2020 to April 2021, you must submit an application for the use of the compensation scheme. Those who have already applied and received money under the Compensation Scheme will be able to submit an additional request for lost inventory.

Among other things, the Storting allocated 1,75 billion crowns to municipalities, so that they can compensate local businesses that are affected by national or local infection control measures. Municipalities have considerable freedom to support the businesses that need it most. Companies from the tourism, event and catering industries can receive support. Companies that have experienced increased costs or financial losses as a result infection control and lockdown measures.

As the population is vaccinated and society can be opened up, getting people back to work becomes paramount. Extensive support programs relieved the business community of high costs. The new wage support system entered into force on March 15, 2021. In addition, changes in the regulations on sickness benefits, deferral of payment, changes in property tax and corporate income tax. Lower VAT rates, temporary abolition of fees, compensation and an incentive system for the cultural, voluntary and sports sectors. A support system for organizers of large events open to the public outside the cultural and sports sector, and a compensation system for expenses related to the entry quarantine.

As long as infection control measures continue, the government will work with various centers to support companies.
