The disturbing news comes from Askøy. Contaminated water was detected - dozens of cases. One little boy is dead. Water is supplied to around 15 local residents. To date, at least 000 people have been diagnosed with poisoning, 50 of whom have been hospitalized. Unfortunately, there was also the death of a one-year-old boy who was diagnosed with the same bacteria as in the water. Tests are done to confirm the cause of death.
Bacteria in drinking water - Caution recommended
Until E. coli problems are identified and resolved, all residents of Askøy Municipality should exercise extreme caution. It is mainly recommended to:
- consume only boiled water,
- in case of alarming symptoms, such as diarrhea, fever, vomiting, contact a doctor immediately.
It is worth paying attention to the fact that children, pregnant women and the elderly are in the group of greatest risk of infection.
E. coli bacteria - what do we know about it?
The E. Coli bacterium is called the Escherichia coli bacterium - it occurs in the bacterial flora of the large intestine. We can get infected with it through, among others:
- drinking unboiled water,
- by touching objects of public use: money, door handles,
- eating unwashed fruits and vegetables.
Untreated infection - E. coli bacteria
- urinary tract infection;
- urethritis;
- pyelonephritis;
- peritonitis;
- meningitis;
- sepsis.
These are rare but can occur. Pay attention to what you eat, where. Wash your hands, fruit and vegetables. Extreme caution is absolutely advisable.
