How to reduce your property tax? It turns out that you only need to take one simple step. According to official information from the Central Statistical Office, the problem of inflated real estate tax may affect up to 17 percent of their owners. This fact is confirmed by analyzes of the independent agency Oslo Economics.

Re-appraisal of the value of an apartment or house

To avoid paying excessive real estate tax, simply appeal against the valuation of the apartment that was carried out Norwegian Tax Office for tax purposes. The effectiveness of this method is proven by the fact that in 2016 alone, over 8 owners of houses and apartments received a new valuation. As a result, they managed to reduce the amount due tax by an average of over 24 percent.

According to Morten Andreas Meyer, secretary of the National Association of Homeowners (Huseiernes Landforbund), there is still too little people takes advantage of the opportunity to re-evaluate the value of real estate for tax purposes. How to check the current property valuation?

It is worth knowing that real estate tax applies in 282 Norwegian municipalities, for a total of 422 communes. One of them is Oslo Municipality, which at the same time allowed everyone to see the current value of a house or apartment. This can be done using a dedicated one Web page.

What's there? Two lists have been published there, one in .pdf format, the other in Excel format. The user who downloads it receives insight not only into the current valuation of his property, but can also view such valuations for all buildings located in the area. Not everyone has to pay

Importantly, not everyone property owners are subject to this tax obligation. Owners of buildings whose value has been assessed at less than PLN 4 are exempt from it millions of crowns. However, the amount of the due tribute is not particularly noticeable because it ranges from PLN 2. up to 8 thousand crowns per year.
