y. Until now, you could handle official matters after taking a number and waiting for your turn. Now, however, you must arrange your visit in advance. To make life easier for the inhabitants of Norway, it was possible to do this via the Internet.

Norwegian Tax Office - when in person?

The Norwegian Tax Office allows you to handle formal matters via the Altinn platform. There are contact forms that allow you to contact the office. Most things can be done without leaving home. However, there are some that require personal intercession from us, and these are the following:

  • registration of residence in Norway,
  • submitting an application for the first tax card,
  • change of personal number from temporary to permanent.

Online visit registration

To visit the Norwegian Tax Office, you must pre-make an appointment. This can be done using the chat service on the office's website or by calling the hotline. However, making an appointment online is a much more convenient form. Just fill in the appropriate one contact formin which you should specify whether you intend to go to the tax office or population registration, select the appropriate facility and specify the expected time of the meeting. Additionally, we will be asked to consent to the processing of our personal data.

If the registration process has been carried out correctly, we will be informed about it via SMS. Via the same form, it is possible to cancel your visit in case we are unable to reach your destination.

What is the Altinn platform?

Altinn is a service that allows you to contact many Norwegian authorities. By using this system, it is possible, for example, to receive a tax return in the first place. It is also possible to register as a jobseeker in Norway, which entitles you to apply for unemployment benefits.

There are several ways to sign in to this platform:

  • MinID - codes assigned to your personal number,
  • BankID - personal codes that are issued by your bank,
  • Buypass – login via a card called “smartkort”, issued by Buypass AS,
  • Commfides - a special flash drive that allows you to log into Altinn. It can be purchased at Commfides Norge AS branches.

The Norwegian Tax Office requires online registration of your visit. It is logical from the point of view of improving the functioning of this institution. By booking an appointment in advance, officials are better able to plan their working day. Will this have a positive effect on the functioning of the Tax Office? Time will tell.
