The witcher has become a permanent part of Polish culture. The game of Polish production, in which the player played the role of the cult Geralt of Rivia, was an international success. However, this cannot be said about the previous screenings based on Sapkowski's stories. The film, which was made in 2001 and the series later produced, did not receive positive reviews. The situation may change, however, because Netflix took up the screening. They are famous for exceptionally good productions, such as House of Cards or Stranger Things.
The Witcher - what is known about the series so far?
Information on the serial adaptation of Sapkowski's novel is like a cure. Lauren S. Hissrich, who previously worked e.g. on The Defenders and Marvel series. As she says herself, the script for the pilot episode has already been written. Lauren recently visited Poland, meeting Andrzej Sapkowski at the same time. Its intention is to maintain the Slavic spirit of the entire production, which Polish fans of the saga expect.
Scenes shot in Eastern Europe
The Witcher is to be kept in a Slavic atmosphere, which will be supported by the scenes in which the episodes will be filmed. Eastern Europe was selected. During her visit to Poland, the screenwriter visited such cities as Krakow, Warsaw and Rabsztyn. However, it is not known whether scenes for the series will be shot in them.
Reference to the book
As Lauren S. Hissrich herself suggests, the series will be an adaptation of the book, not the game - despite the fact that it has been a huge international success. Anyway, the screenwriter read the whole saga of adventures about Geralt of Rivia a long time ago. In addition, she uses the Polish names of the heroes of the book, which has already captured Polish fans.
The premiere in 2020 ... Or maybe earlier
It is worth noting that the shooting of the series has not yet started. The actors were not selected and no contracts were officially signed. At least the information on this subject is kept in strict secrecy. It is expected that the photos will start to be taken at the end of 2018 or the beginning of 2019. As the screenwriter announces, the premiere of the first episode should be released in 2020, and maybe even sooner. So far, the works are progressing at a good pace. At least that is the official position.
Plot
To this day, no detailed information about the plot has been revealed. Initially, it was suggested that the action would take place only in the Witcher universe, and Geralt himself would not be the main character. However, according to the official announcements and the description of the series on the Netflix website, you should expect a story about The Witcher. However, it is still unknown to what extent the source material in the form of the book will be used.
What does Sapkowski say about the series?
During the Warsaw Comic Con, which took place on April 20-22 this year, a meeting with Andrzej Sapkowski took place. He does not hide himself that he is not a big fan of the series of games devoted to the adventures of Geralt. However, he speaks in a slightly different tone about cooperation with Netflix. He himself stated that these are professionals who make decent productions. In response to a question about his role in the creation of the series, he stated that “As a consultant, my job is to ensure that Ed Sheeran doesn't sing at any time on the show". He added that he cannot reveal any details about the emerging series, because ... He does not know them.

Is it worth the wait?
Considering the level of Netflix productions to date, we can wait for a really decent adaptation of the book about Geralt's adventures. "The Witcher" may become a world hit, and its producers are set to produce more than one season. At least that's what unofficial information shows.
