What plasters are suitable for the facade of Norwegian buildings?

Severe weather conditions require the use of an appropriate type of plaster: silicone, silicate and silicone. Each of these solutions has its advantages and disadvantages. Their use should take into account the parameters of each of them - all in order to achieve the best results.

What kind of plaster to use for the facade? >>>

Silicone plasters

The binder is silicone resin. An important feature is water repellency = water and dirt run off the wall surface. The biological substances used prevent moss and algae fouling, and prevent the formation of fungi and mold. The material is vapor-permeable and has the characteristics of mineral, acrylic and silicate plasters. Hard binders ensure resistance to mechanical damage, their flexibility prevents cracks. The structure allows for varied coloring.

Silicate-silicone plasters

Enriched with silicate binders, resistant to mechanical damage. Due to the lower vapor permeability parameters, it is better not to use them in places exposed to higher humidity. First of all, this applies to areas with high rainfall intensity and close to large bodies of water. The advantage is higher resistance to dirt.

Polish building materials - the latest trends for the kitchen

Kitchen trends are moving towards the use of dedicated solutions. It is worth investing in practical modules with pull-out corner shelves - they will allow you to properly arrange a smaller space. Mirrored kitchen fronts will create an optical impression of spaciousness. Polish construction products are ecological. Producers use natural raw materials. These factors make the structure include floor panels, wall materials, and ceramic tiles imitating natural wood. Such an interior is complemented by a table top, table made of marble, natural stones.

Kitchen arrangement trends in 2018 - what will change? >>>

Interior individuality

To achieve an individual interior design, it is worth taking advantage of the offer for custom-made furniture. Professionals will help you find a project that fits the best. Giving character to a wardrobe or kitchen can be achieved, among others opting for bamboo. It is perfect for a terrace or a garden - wherever the furniture is susceptible to moisture. For lovers of traditional wood patterns, oak is recommended - it is also extremely durable. Buk is also a good solution when we are interested in a sustainable investment. We can rely on popular plywood or MDF boards. Polish construction products for carpenters can be combined, which will allow you to achieve unusual aesthetic and functional values.

Polish building articles - a guide to ceramic tiles

An important surface on which to lay tiles: in the kitchen or bathroom. We select tiles for each of these rooms separately, paying attention to the properties of the materials used. The following parameters are decisive here: water absorption, stain resistance and hardness of minerals.

Ceramic tiles - what to choose for the floor and what for the walls? >>>

Three groups of water absorption

Water absorption indicates water resistance. There are three levels:

I - less than 3%
II - 3% -10%
III - above 10%

The first group is characterized by a frost-resistant material with little water penetration. The second one contains tiles suitable for floors and walls. The third one is a product intended only for use on walls.

Trends in ceramic tiles in 2018 >>>

Glaze, terracotta, stoneware

The glaze is suitable for placing on the kitchen wall due to the gloss achieved by additional glaze applied during the production process. In combination with water, the surface of the tile becomes slippery and unsafe and therefore not suitable for use on bathroom floors.

How to choose the best ceramic tiles? >>>

But terracotta is a safe material for bathroom furnishings. It is characterized by greater resistance to mechanical damage, which is guaranteed by the high temperature at which it is fired. It also does not become as slippery as glaze from contact with water.
Gres is the most universal material. These tiles are resistant to weather conditions. They are suitable for installation in the kitchen - they are not affected by temperature changes. The surface is not so slippery when in contact with water, you can consider using it in the bathroom.

Stain scale

The stain resistance in Polish building materials is marked on a scale of 1-5. The higher the number, the better the dirt resistance.

The scale of Fig

The hardness of the materials is determined by the Mohs scale. The ten grades describe the scratch resistance depending on the composition of the building materials.

  • 1-2 is talc and plaster - just scratch it with your fingernail so that the damage is visible.
  • 3-6 indicates greater resistance, but not copper wire or nail.
  • 7-10 - the hardest minerals are closed by a diamond. Products containing this material can be safely installed in the garage, ensuring use for years. The second group is enough to go home.

When collecting the tiles, remember to check the delivered goods - a tearing reduces the strength. In order not to expose yourself to differences in the shade of tiles, it is worth purchasing them from one production series.

The attractiveness of tiles: wood or stone?

Polish construction articles meet the needs of customers in accordance with the current trends. In terms of tiles that compete with floorboards, the advantage is the possibility of dyeing, as well as giving deeply carved structures. The durability of the material ensures universal use: inside and outside. Inner tiles are more durable and wear-resistant than boards. Outside, they withstand rain, frost and UV radiation.

There are also tiles imitating stone on the market. The main advantage when making a choice is the cost of the product in relation to solutions for the production of which natural raw materials were used.

Return of tiled fireplaces

Although central heating (CO) is fully performing its role, there are still tiled fireplaces in historic tenement houses. This way of heating an apartment becomes a method of arranging an interior in a vintage, retro, Scandinavian and modern style. The technology of fireplaces has been improved with the possibility of connecting to a water jacket or creating ventilation that distributes heat throughout the living area. If we prefer to stay with central heating, we can connect a fireplace to this system, which becomes a decoration of the place.

Goat in the living room

Freestanding stoves - the so-called "Goats" - is a point source of heat. They come in two types: cast iron and steel. The first ones have thick walls that accumulate heat, which have the ability to maintain it even after the furnace has expired. The fireclay brick is responsible for this. The advantage of the second is the economical price. Depending on the destination, the stove can be covered with tiles or cladding made of ceramic plates to give an aesthetic appearance when decorating Scandinavian, industrial or futuristic interiors. Remember that we will not connect them to central heating and therefore cannot be treated as a non-primary source of heat for a house or apartment.

Warm from wool

Glass or stone wool is used to insulate a building. The choice depends on the installation site. Glass wool is recommended for insulating a pitched roof. Rock wool is the optimal solution for walls. Although these two materials have very similar thermal insulation properties, there are minor functional differences between them.

Glass wool

It is produced by melting and defibrating a mixture of quartz sand or glass broken glass. The resulting fibers stick together with special resins or polyacrylics. This ensures thermal insulation, which is expressed in the coefficient of thermal conductivity. The lower the coefficient, the better the warming. It is also resistant to fire of 600-700 degrees Celsius. It also has excellent acoustic insulation properties. It is an elastic material - after being compressed, it does not change its shape. However, you have to be careful with moisture, because it loses its properties when wet.

Rock wool or mineral wool - which is better? >>>

Rock wool

In other words: stone. The base is basalt, an admixture of gabbro, dolomite and limestone aggregate. Recycled mineral briquettes are used during production. The heat-insulating material is fire-resistant, which is defined by classes A1, A2, B (the safest), provided by manufacturers of Polish construction products. Rock wool withstands greater loads due to its density. Provides water impermeability - does not soak into the structure. After drying, it returns to its shape and size.

Both species are identically vapor permeable, which means that they do not retain moisture. To ensure drainage of water, it is recommended to combine with vapor-permeable foils.
