Tiled fireplaces return to favor
The first tiled fireplaces were not very efficient. Their construction and assembly was a logical consequence of the heat demand of the inhabitants of a given household. In the natural course of things, they replaced the fires that were located in the center of the room in the first farms. Over time, it was moved to the wall to increase the utility of the living room.
They had large fireplaces, because these tiled fireplaces also served as a handy kitchen. They had a huge demand for wood because they were not efficient. Fieldstone, sandstone, limestone, gneiss or brick were used for their construction, and clay or lime-sand mortars were used for mortar. There were richly inlaid fireplaces in the houses of magnates and nobility.
Tiled fireplaces today
Nowadays, a completely different technology is used for the production of such fireplaces. Their efficiency has been significantly improved, the fuel demand has been reduced and rationalized, and the finishing method has been significantly improved. Designers take care to prepare a unique interior design with the use of tiled fireplaces. Technological issues have also changed, thanks to which the heating properties have been increased. Modern devices can be connected to e.g. a water jacket or create a ventilation system that distributes heat throughout the house.
Tiled fireplaces - for which interiors?
Fireplaces of this type are coming back to favor primarily due to their aesthetic qualities. They fit perfectly into retro and vintage interiors. However, depending on the stove tiles used, it is possible to integrate them creatively into, for example, modern, Scandinavian, industrial and even classicist styles. In fact, the ways of arrangement are limited only by the availability of tile patterns. All this means that there are a lot of possibilities to integrate them into any decorated space.
