From Monday, August 20, bus operators return to their regular offer. Changes are waiting for the residents of Nodre Glomma - more connections have been prepared in this region. All because of the growing needs of people who use buses on their way to work, as well as plans to reduce car traffic.

Reducing car traffic in Nedre Glomma

The extension of the offer for bus connections results from the adopted strategy aimed at reducing car traffic in the Nedre Glomma region in the Østfold district. For this purpose, it was decided to increase the number of buses that run, among others to Fredrikstad from Rekustad / Østfoldhallen, Hauge / Lisleby, Ambjørnrød / Pettersand, Vikerkilen, Langøya, Øra and Begby. In turn, there will be more connections to Sarpsborg from Sandbakken, Ise, Hafslundsøy, Grålum / Kalnes and also Greåker.

Departure times for the needs of employees

The new departures are based on the working hours of commuters to Fredrikstad and Sorpsborg. There will be more rush hour services, with a good offer for connections during the day as well as on weekends. However, as Olav Moe from the Transport Committee in the Østfold district admits - it was not possible to fully implement the assumptions made in autumn 2017. Nevertheless, the current offer of carriers is a good start to fully achieve the assumed goals.

11 new permanent connections

Østfold County Council aims to encourage residents to use the bus service instead of their own car. That is why the permanent offer of carriers will include an additional 11 regular routes throughout the Nedre Glomma region. Emphasis was placed on increasing the frequency of departures from places where the most people live and where the most travelers use this form of transport.

Bus ordering system

At the same time, Olav Moe realizes that there are places from which fewer passengers travel. In order to avoid a situation in which buses run practically without passengers, special lanes for these vehicles have been created in certain places. There is also an ordering system that is free for the first year. Regional and express buses can stop at these locations, but must have been booked in advance. In Sarpsborg, such a solution will start operating in Skjeberg, Kurland and Alvim, while in Fredrikstad these are Vikane, Skjærviken, Glombo and Årum.

Changes to bus connections

The authorities in Østfold County intend to reduce car traffic. To this end, they increased the attractiveness of bus connections, taking into account the hours in which travelers work in larger cities. Datego introduced 11 new connections from the towns where the most people live. At the same time in less dense places special bus lanes were created and an ordering system was implemented. Thanks to this, carriers will increase the profitability of less popular connections.
