. Plastic is a very big problem for us today. Ocean waters suffer the most due to large amounts of it. For recent years, The Ocean Cleanup organization has been working on a system that would clean up the oceans, and the day has come for testing.
Fallen plastic
The waters of the oceans, unfortunately, are filled with large amounts of plastic. More and more of him come every day. The 8 million tons of plastic that gets into all waters every year is an incredibly shocking figure. This data can be much larger. The Great Pacific Garbage Patch is evidence of the damage caused by the above-mentioned material, the main part of which has an area of about a million square kilometers.
The Great Attempt
Two days ago, on 8.09/610, the aforementioned organization The Ocean Cleanup began an operation to relocate the so-called 001-meter-long sleeve to clean the waters of the ocean. The System 001, as it was named, was attached to a ship that pulled the rig across San Francisco Bay, underneath the Golden Gate Bridge, to the testing site. In the first year of operation, it is estimated that System 50 is to collect as much as XNUMX tons of plastic.
Great ocean cleansing. Big hopes
As we can read on the main website of The Ocean Cleanup, the system they will test will allow them to clean the ocean of these largest plastic clusters in the future. If the organization were able to have 60 arms, 610 meters one, then it is estimated that they could clean the oceans by as much as 50% within five years. Of course, the project is worthy of attention and respect, but unfortunately it is not that simple. The system is currently in the testing phase, and Boyan Slate, the Dutch founder of the organization, will inform about their success or not.
Negative aspects of the project
Although the idea itself has a very good opinion among many people, as it happens in life, there will always be a wave of criticism. A large number of people disapprove of these activities, claim that the devices can disturb the water ecosystem, and the publicity of the matter causes our eyes to soap. Critics believe that we should teach people to prevent such situations, i.e. how to replace plastic, and not show that we are able to come out unscathed from every tragedy.
