Today in Bergen 384 new cases are infected, and yesterday three cases of omicron were reported to the municipality. The chief infection control officer assesses the need for further action.

Infections are increasing in all age groups under 50. Plus today's infection rate is the highest, which was recorded within one day from the beginning of the pandemic. 39 percent cases concern children and adolescents under 20 years of age, and 50 percent concerns the population aged 20 to 49.

Marit Voltersvik, the head of infection control, is concerned about the high infection rate

- The national measures put forward by the government yesterday provide regulatory provisions for the entire country, regardless of the local infection situation. In view of the infection situation in Bergen, I believe there is a need to tighten up some of the national orders at local level. We are currently working on a recommendation for the city council. We want to step up measures in the form of face masks and the Bergen quarantine rules, says Voltersvik.

It will also recommend new measures in kindergarten and school due to the high pressure of infection and sickness absenteeism in these facilities. The municipality will announce the details of this shortly.

The city council has to take the recommendations into account

Health Councilor Beate Husa shares the concern of the director of infection control.

- City Council will consider the infection control chief's recommendation when it is ready. "It is important that we now reduce the risk of infection in Bergen and that we all follow the infection control measures and advice in force," says Husa.

At the same time, the City Council encourages everyone who has been offered the vaccine to adopt it as soon as possible.

- Covid-19 vaccine is a way out of the pandemic. Vaccination stations have spare capacity and I ask all those who have not yet been vaccinated to make an appointment quickly, says Husa.
