Nursing benefit in Norway is also available if parents or guardians are caring for a person over 18 years of age. This is only allowed if he or she requires the constant presence of another person because of a health condition that threatens his life or other serious and chronic diseases.

Nursing supplement for an adult child
The rules for granting the nursing supplement for an adult child are the same as for young people under 18 years of age. The following conditions must be met:
- show that you were employed for a minimum of 4 months before there was a loss of income due to the need to care for the patient,
- show that the income was achieved at the level of min. 1G (national basic insurance rate),
- if the parent has not worked before, he or she must show that he / she was entitled to unemployment, sickness, health or training allowances from NAV.

Documentation
You should also complete the necessary medical documentation. Nursing benefit in Norway can be granted when the sick person is treated in hospital. However, if his condition requires a guardian XNUMX/XNUMX and staying at home, the doctor must issue a relevant certificate that clearly explains these circumstances. Additionally, the patient must be treated by a hospital or a physiotherapist in a specialized health center.
Nursing benefit for both parents
As with the nursing supplement for a child under the age of 18, the elderly can apply for the benefit for both parents. However, in order for them to be entitled to 100% pay coverage, the doctor must issue a certificate stating that the patient requires the constant presence of two guardians.

Nursing benefit in Norway and going abroad
NAV allows for the possibility of the benefit departure during the stay outside Norway. However, you should inform the office about this before departure. However, there is a time limit - the total duration of stay abroad cannot exceed 8 weeks in a 12-month period. This rule does not apply when the patient is treated by a foreign institution.

How to apply
First, download form NAV 09-11.05, fill it in and send it to the office. If you are applying for a nursing benefit for a period of up to 8 weeks, the documents must be accompanied by a certificate from the hospital. After this time, you have the option to extend the period of receiving the nursing supplement, but it requires re-submission of the application together with certificates from all people who participated in the treatment process.

Additionally, the application must be accompanied by:
- income information - employees fill in form NAV 08-30.01, while self-employed and freelancers fill out form NAV 09-35.01,
- if you are temporarily unemployed, you must complete and attach form NAV 08-47.05.
NAV can withdraw funds up to 3 months back. This means that if, for example, you are applying for the nursing benefit for June, you must submit the application with attachments in September at the latest.
