Himalayan tragedy - 9 people are dead

A powerful snowstorm that took place in the Himalayas in Nepal destroyed a mountaineering camp on its way. The media reports on nine people who died.

Killer avalanche

There was a violent and powerful avalanche on Friday, which was a consequence of the storm. The mountaineers' base, which was located at an altitude of 3500 m under Mount Gurja, was completely destroyed. At the time when the avalanche surprised the inhabitants of the camp, there were nine people in the camp. Unfortunately, none of them survived the accident.

Helicopter without strength

Immediately after the incident, a Nepalese helicopter arrived at the scene of the accident. As reported by the Nepalese media, rescuers who arrived at the scene saw eight scattered bodies. The weather on Saturday morning in that area did not allow the helicopter crew to take the dead climbers. The plane was forced to take off due to unfavorable weather in order not to endanger the crew.

Killed climbers

It is certain that in Friday's incident in the massif Nine people died on Mount Gurja. Five of them were from South Korea and the remaining four were from Nepal.

The most famous Korean climber

Among the nine climbers who died was 48-year-old Kim Chang-ho. He is a distinguished man who had a lot to do with the mountains. He was the first Korean to summit all fourteen eight-thousanders. The Korean could boast of one more achievement in his career. Namely, Kim Chang-ho broke the world record for the fastest time to conquer the above-mentioned peaks and conquered them in only 10 years, 7 months and 6 days. This result led him to knock down our Polish alpinist Jerzy Kukuczka from the first place.
