The presence of iron in our body plays an important role in our health. Its deficiency can cause all kinds of diseases and ailments, including anemia.

Why is iron so important?

We all know our blood is red. However, very few people know that hemoglobin is responsible for its color. This, in turn, is created thanks to a component such as heme, of which iron is a component. The previously mentioned hemoglobin is responsible for many processes such as: oxygenation of the body or transport and storage of oxygen. If there is a very low level of iron in our body, we are exposed to anemia, which sometimes leads to hypoxia.

The presence of iron in the diet

Why should we remember about iron-rich foods? Unfortunately, its digestibility from food is at a very low level, so it is so important to remember about the products that will provide it to us every day. There are, of course, ways to increase the absorption of iron, one of them is vitamin C and B vitamins.

The effects of iron deficiency

If our body begins to sense a significant lack of iron, then it begins to use the stored amount of iron, which are reserves and are located mainly in the liver, marrow and spleen. Later on, when the iron runs out and the reserves are gone, our body looks unhealthy. Our complexion turns pale. Hair and nails lose their condition. Fatigue, drowsiness and lethargy are other examples of how our body reacts to a lack of iron. The resistance to any infections present is declining. We are getting weaker day by day.

Additionally, to increase the absorption of iron, vitamin C and B vitamins should be taken.
