Buying a car in Norway requires meeting a number of formal issues. It is also important to take practical steps to verify the actual condition of the vehicle we are interested in. The key issue is whether the car you buy will be used in Norway or in Poland. The first case is described below.
Buying a car in Norway - what should you pay attention to?
Cars can be purchased used and new. Much more common sales are for previously owned vehicles. In such a situation, the purchase of a car in Norway should be preceded by a fairly detailed inspection. Sale and purchase agreement
Once we have made the inspection and decided to buy the car in Norway, a purchase contract must be drawn up in duplicate. Act kjøpsloven obliges the owner to inform the buyer about the following:
- mileage and year of the car,
- vehicle debt,
- determining whether the seller is the owner of the vehicle and, if so, which one,
- service frequency and regularity,
- list of listed non-consumable parts,
- determining whether the car was involved in accidents or collisions,
- vehicle approval by EU law,
- whether taxes have been paid.
The last two items can be verified by sending an SMS to the number 2282 with the content REGNR xxxxxxx - the cost is 3 Norwegian kroner. It is worth remembering that the purchase contract should also contain the technical data of the vehicle, and above all: model and make, date of first registration, additional accessories or repairs after a collision.

Important phrases on the purchase contract
Buying a car in Norway also requires knowing the typical phrases that appear on the contract: i am on den er (as is) and i'm a forevist (as shown). Their presence on the document determines the seller's liability for any defects. The use of the first return signifies that the buyer accepts all defects and irregularities. With the second wording, the buyer has the right to request the seller to reimburse the costs of repairing faults which he discovered after the transaction and which the seller did not inform about.
When purchasing a vehicle at a commission commission, both parties to the transaction are subject to the act forbrukerkjøpsloven. It regulates the relationship between a natural person and a business entity. It is in this legal act that detailed information regarding the seller's liability to the buyer is contained.

Salgsmelding
If the purchase of a car in Norway takes place between natural persons, then in addition to the purchase contract, the sales notification document (Norwegian salgsmelding). Like the contract, the application must be completed in duplicate. The obligation to report the transaction is the responsibility of the seller.
Personal number
It is worth knowing that you will not be able to buy a car in Norway if you do not have a Norwegian personal number. It can be both temporary (norw. d-number) and permanent (norw. person number). However, if the car is purchased in Norway by a company, it must have its own organization number. Without it, it will not be possible to register the purchase of a new vehicle in Statens vegvesen.

Car registration in Norway
Registering a newly acquired car in Norway will not cause many difficulties. First of all, the seller must first report the transaction to the Statens vegvesen. The authority then sends the buyer an invoice for the registration fee. Once it has been settled, the Statens vegvesen will send you a new license plate by post. Only then can the newly acquired vehicle be used.

When purchasing a used vehicle, we should familiarize ourselves with its technical condition, assess the accident rate, and take care of a properly prepared purchase contract.
