As announced by Circle K, the company intends to invest in the expansion of fast charging stations. By 2020, up to 500 of them are to be built. They will replace gas filling stations. The plans include more than just installing new chargers. Those of the older type with a power of 50 kW will be replaced by fast ones with a power of 150 kW.

Currently, only 1 cars can be charged simultaneously

According to Ståle Frydenlund of the Norwegian Electric Cars Association, the plans announced by Circle K are beneficial for the Norwegian automotive market. Currently, only 1 elbili can be charged simultaneously nationwide. Thus, it does not cover the growing demand for fast charging stations. In his opinion, by 500 there should be from 2025 to 1 new such facilities to maintain an even pace compared to the incoming electric cars.

Ambitious plans

Circle K intends to meet the expectations of elbili drivers. This is why the company has made ambitious plans, which are as follows:

  • doubling the number of places offering fast charging,
  • four-fold increase in the chargers themselves.

The first station to be equipped with the new charging points will be Circle K in Ståle Frydenlund near Lillesand (road E18). The infrastructure is already one of the best in the country - there are 26 fast chargers owned by Tesla, IONITY and Green Contact. Thanks to this, all models of modern electric cars can be charged. Until December this year, the situation is to be even more favorable.

Two other stations until Christmas

Circle K announces that two other stations will be retrofitted before Christmas. These are those located in Flekkefjord (Circle K Sira) and Larvik (Circle K Ringdalskogen). In total, by 2019, IONITY plans to install fast chargers at 18 other Circle K stations.

As announced by the owners of the concern, the following plans are to be implemented by the end of 2018:

  • Circle K Kjerlingland: 8 new chargers,
  • Circle K Gol: 6 new chargers,
  • Circle K Ringdalskogen: 8 new chargers,
  • Circle K Sira: 6 new chargers,
  • Circle Dal: 8 new chargers
  • Circle K Dombås: 6 new chargers.

At the same time, the Circle K Økern and Fjellhamar intend to replace 6 and 4 classic chargers with a power of 50 kW, respectively, with fast ones with a power of 150 kW.
