Since tanning salons appeared on the market, artificial tanning has become a widely recognized fashion. Today it's hard to look for a person who has not benefited from this type of treatment at least once. Unfortunately, the solarium is not that good and healthy.

Solarium and new recipes

On September 1, 2018, a new regulation entered into force in Sweden. It establishes that each owner sunroom and decking area is obliged to verify the age of every person who wants to tan. One of the Swedish TV stations decided to conduct a short and quick survey. In 10 of the solariums they visited, only in 7 the age of the person who wanted to use the artificial tanning treatment was checked.

The course of the control

According to the new regulation, many questions arose on how to verify the age of the client. According to the Office for Radiation Safety, a person who should check the age of the person interested in tanning can do it manually by verifying the document or electronically, eg with a bank ID. Helene Asp, the head of the Radiation Safety Authority, sensitizes the owners of tanning salons not to take the word of people who say they are 18 years old. He asks that this information be checked each time.

Tests in Sweden

Currently, there are about 500 solariums in Sweden, 57 of which can be found in Stockholm. Many of them do not have employees who could verify the customer's age. There are devices in the rooms, into which the right amount of money is thrown and everyone can take advantage of artificial tanning. In 10 showrooms where the tests were carried out, the age was not verified in as many as seven. Two salons check the date of birth thanks to the app and bank ID, and in the last one sunroom and decking area there is a camera with a microphone. The head of the last one sunroom and decking area reported that during the company's opening hours, on the other side of the camera, there is an employee who appropriately verifies the age of the person who wants to tan.

Too expensive investment

Many solarium owners believe that the regulation that came into force on September 1 is simply too expensive. Installation of a technical solution that would facilitate age verification of solarium customers costs from 30 to 000 crowns. In addition, there is the need to hire an employee, which, according to the Swedish Solarium Association, is too expensive for many owners of such places.

The damage that the solarium can do to us

When artificial tanning became fashionable, many women and men began to use it sunroom and decking area. Still very few people are aware of the many negative effects that this type of sunbathing can have. The sooner a person begins to expose his own skin to such drastic treatments, the sooner we notice the aging process. Frequent use of the solarium leads to the destruction of the DNA of the skin and even leads to cancer. Statistics show that walking to sunroom and decking area once a month increases the risk of cancer by up to 50%.
