Tough last years

During the press conference Robert Kubica he admitted that the last years were the hardest of his life. "I would like to thank everyone who helped me during such a difficult period in my life as the last few years," says Kubica. "It was a demanding journey. Things that seemed almost impossible turn out to be possible today. I am excited to announce this: I will compete in Formula 1 next season. ”

He first believed it in 2017

Robert Kubica he believed in his return to the F1 race track last spring. The driver himself admits that if not Renault, contract with Williams would not come to fruition. When hardly anyone believed in the return of the Pole to F1, on June 6, 2017 there were leaks about him Renault tests. They were private, but according to unofficial information Kubica fared positively in them.

First official tests

The most important stage in his back on the tracks there were tests on the Hungarian track in Hungaroring. After a six-year break, the Pole took 7th place during the two-day tests. He was close signed a contract with RenaultHowever, his place was eventually taken by a Spaniard - Carlos Sainz.

Then Williams showed up

Is that Williams decided to give Kubica a chance was a matter of chance. Main sponsor Martini insisted on employing a driver over the age of 25. It was about the possibility advertising alcohol in some countries. Additionally, the stable was not satisfied with the results Felip Massa.

Thus, the Pole was given a chance to present himself on two tests, in which he was positive. He was supposed to sign the contract after the Abu Dhabi post-season test. There, however, he surprised Sergei Sirotkinwhich additionally had a good sponsorship package. Consequently this Russian became a rally driver, and Robert Kubica he had to settle for the position of reserve driver.

A breakthrough year of 2018

It turned out to be a breakthrough rally tests in which Kubica fared better than two young drivers - Lance Stroll and Sergey Sirotkin. Williams decided to draw conclusions from fateful season and he put on two experienced players - George Russell and just Robert Kubica. However, we must count on the fact that the consequences were also drawn against constructors Williams' car was the worst last season.
