Every year, the fire brigade in Norway has their hands full. Worse still, the statistics on forest fires continue to rise. In 2018, 2.097 forest fires were recorded - twice as many as in 2017. Unfortunately, nothing indicates that this summer season is better.

Forest fires in Norway - DSB report not very optimistic ...

The Office of Public Security and Emergency Planning last Sunday presented a detailed report on forest firefighting activities undertaken in 2018. During the preparation of the report, the following were mainly taken into account:

  • preventive work,
  • preparatory activities for the intervention,
  • Legal issues.

Fire Department in Norway: "We are well prepared!"

Climate change can contribute to greater droughts. Director Anne Rygh Pedersen from DSB ensures that the fire service is well prepared for any intervention.

“Last year's experiences meant that all units are now better equipped and therefore even better prepared. We expect the fire situation this year to be even worse than last year, and this will bring with it new, even more demanding challenges for both people and equipment. "

Summer time is coming - the risk of forest fires in Norway is increasing.

Introduction of warning messages in multiple languages

Anne Pedersen from DSB emphasizes the need to increase and strengthen the messages of the fire brigade. There are a lot of foreigners in Norway. Not everyone understands the message in Norwegian, so warning messages in other languages must appear as soon as possible.

'Fire warning posters must be printed in multiple languages. In summer, many foreign tourists stayed in the woods and on the beaches. However, we did not reach those who do not understand Norwegian and English with the information. "

Mutual assistance in times of crisis

“Norway has a well-developed preparedness system and a deeply entrenched culture of mutual aid in crisis situations. People help each other by crossing the boundaries of belonging to an agency or organization. " - provides Anne Rygh Pedersen.
