On July 22, 2011, a bloody massacre took place on the island of Utøya in Norway. This event shocked not only Norway, but also the whole world. Nobody expected… nobody expected… A peaceful island, which was a symbol of peace, relaxation, rest, suddenly became a mass grave. Today is 8 years since this crime, for which Anders Breivik (now Fjotolf Hansen) was responsible. In Norway, ceremonies were held to commemorate the victims of the attacks. 

Utøya, Breivik - return to traumatic moments ...

The ceremonies commemorating the victims of the attacks are held every year. This is also the case today ... The most important events are attended by, among others: Prime Minister Erna Solberg and the chairman of the Labor Party (Arbeiderpartiet) Jonas Gahr Støre. The program of the celebrations was very tight, from the very morning - they started in the government quarter (Regjeringskvartalet) in the center of Oslo. At the beginning, the names of all the murdered were read out and their memory was commemorated with a minute of silence. It was undoubtedly a very difficult and moving moment. Then we heard speeches by representatives of the Norwegian authorities: Prime Minister Erna Solberg and the chairman of the youth movement of the Labor Party Ina Libak and representatives of the National Support Group (Nasjonal Støttegruppe). The solemn and eloquent mass was also important. in the church of Oslo Domkirke. In the afternoon there was a celebration on the island of Utøya.

Utøya, Breivik and the day that should not come… Anders Breivik carried out two terrorist attacks - in two places - in the government quarter in Oslo and on the island of Utøya. 15:25 - bomb explosion in the center of the capital, 8 people died. On the island of Utøya, about 40 minutes later, Breivik murdered 69 people in cold blood. The victims were participants in the summer camp for members of the youth organization of the Labor Party (AUF). The youngest victim was only 14 years old.

July 22, 2011 - the world held its breath ...

"Utøya, Breivik" - these two words still arouse terror and fear. They are a symbol of pain and suffering: for families, friends, relatives of the victims, for the whole Norwegian country - finally, for all those who say firmly: "no!" violence and hate speech. 8 years ago, not only was a bloody murder of innocent beings: mothers, fathers, children, people who had their goals, dream plans ... On July 22 and the event on the island of Utøya was an attack on freedom, independence. Until now, Norway has been considered a country free from acts of violence. The Norwegians were perceived as a happy, free society, enjoying financial and spiritual prosperity. Suddenly someone destroyed the peace, the sense of security ...
