We present the results of the latest survey by the Central Statistics Office of Norway (Statistisk sentralbyrå, SSB). Prices in Norway are much higher than in the other 28 countries that were taken into account during the research project. Most in Norway we will pay for:
- milk products,
- grain products,
- eggs,
- vegetables.

What does the research result look like in practice? Food prices in Norway are 63 percent higher than food prices in the EU as a whole and 40 percent higher than in Sweden.
Going further... by buying e.g. tobacco in In Sweden we will spend half the price on it Norwegian. Meat products are about 30 percent lower than in Sweden - milk, cheese and eggs are 54 percent lower. Bread and cereal products are 36 percent more expensive. – fruits, vegetables and potatoes 26 percent.
Referring to other Scandinavian countries: level prices in Norway it is 25 percent higher than in Denmark, 36 percent higher than in Finland and 10 percent higher than in Iceland. The second country to have prices very similar to those in Norway is currently Switzerland. Traveling there or living we will spend the same amount on food as in Norway.

This question is certainly asked by people who are thinking about emigrating. Food prices may vary slightly overwhelm and cause anxiety. The truth is, however, that if we get a well-paid job work cost of living in Norway it won't be that painful. If we have been here for some time, it is worth having our proven and good places where we shop for ourselves and our family. Proper storage is also important - especially vegetables and fruits – this is a priority after every purchase.
