The ubiquitous opinion that potatoes are an unhealthy supplement that negatively affects our body has been around for a very long time. Should we really avoid the potato in our daily diet?
Less caloric than a banana
As it turns out, the potato is neither caloric nor bad for our health. Its very low caloric content is even lower than that of the well-known banana. Two potato tubers only have 60 to 70 calories. It is important, however, what we eat this potato with, because its company, present on the plate, is often more caloric than it.
Potatoes and the nutritional value they provide
Many people are afraid of eating potatoes. The fear of gaining weight is greater than the desire to know the amount of nutritional value that their consumption provides. Our body's cells need a lot of energy to function properly. The fuel that allows them to do so is glucose. This and its presence in our body is caused by starch, which owes its large source to eating potatoes. The potato tuber provides us with a lot of energy and thanks to them we are satiated, which means that we do not feel too much like snacking between meals.
Vitamin C
Potatoes are a rich source of vitamin C. However, it must be remembered that every culinary activity we perform on them leads to its loss. The amount of vitamin C in 100 grams of potatoes is 16 mg. The activity that we do almost always, i.e. peeling the potato, causes it to lose 6% of vitamin C. Additionally, if they are boiled, they lose 46% of the vitamin content, and if we fry them for the purpose of making fries, we get rid of as much as 86%. vitamin C content
Adequate cooking
We already know that peeled potatoes, put into water for cooking, lose their value. What to do to prevent this from happening? The best solution is simply not to peel them. Of course, this method may not appeal to everyone, so it is very important to put them directly into the boiling water when you peel them. Boiling water protects to a small extent the precipitation of vitamins. Potatoes can also be baked in their jackets and steamed, which is the healthiest form of serving them.
