Norway and radioactive iodine. We have information straight from the border with Russia. The Norwegian Radiation and Nuclear Safety Authority (DSA) informed a few days ago (on Thursday, August 15, 2019) about the detection of small amounts of radioactive iodine at the Norwegian border with Russia during the analysis and implementation of air measurements at the border between Norway and Russia. It is worth noting that despite the appearance of the harmful substance, its concentration was not high. It did not pose a threat to human health and life. What else do we know? Read the text!

Norway and radioactive iodine - the course of the study

The analyzes were conducted from 9 to 12 August. Was the detected radioactive emission related to the accident at the Russian naval training ground in Arkhangelsk Oblast, where a nuclear-powered rocket engine exploded on August 8? We do not know this yet, but it is impossible to completely rule out such an option:

“The measurement results are comparable to those we obtained earlier. Norwegian monitoring stations detect radioactive iodine 6 to 8 times a year, its source usually remains unknown. If, apart from iodine, no other radioactive substances are detected, it is most likely an emission from a facility producing radioactive pharmaceuticals containing iodine. fragment of the DSA message.

What do we know about the outbreak?

Norway and radioactive iodine. What happened?

We will also find out from the official statement: the reactor in which the explosion took place is part of a liquid-fuel rocket engine. The greatest use of such devices can be observed, among others, in spacecraft. The research was carried out on a special platform designed for such research purposes. It is worth noting here that Sarov is a very important nuclear center in the Nizhny Novgorod Oblast.
