The road to Kjerag. The impression is amazing. Kjerag, or more precisely The stone hanging over the precipice, or Kjeragbolten - is a seasonal tourist destination. Pending the opening of the district road between Sirdal and Lysebotn from around mid-May, Kjerag is considered only accessible to specially equipped travelers. We were there on August 25.08.2019, XNUMX. The season ends when the road is closed due to snowfall in October / November.

6-10 hour round trip

Parking for cars is available at Øygardstølen restaurant - cost 300 NOK per car. When it comes to climbing Kjeragbolten, we only have three arduous ones to overcome for me hills. In a nutshell - the trail to Kjeragbolten consists of three ascents and three descents, the first descent is to the "moomin valley" and the last 40 minutes of the walk is a relaxing hike on an almost flat.

Weather in Norway it can be very capricious, we had beautiful weather, but you need to protect yourself, so be sure to take a raincoat, sunscreen, sunglasses and plenty of water with you. On the flat part of the trail, the sun can be very hot. The entire ascent takes about 3 hours at a leisurely paceThe descent took about 2 hours and we spent about an hour there, so it took us 6 hours in total.

I recommend it with all my strength

I would not be myself if I did not feel a bit or a bit tired. I thought climbing on it would be more extreme, scary and difficult. The reality turned out to be completely different: entering Kjeragbolten is simple FOR ME and without fear, but with caution according to mnie Norway's attraction for everyone I RECOMMEND these beautiful views. Although I didn't know before that parking costs 300 NOK, it shouldn't be a problem for anyone. Be careful to choose a good one next to the stone the road through the gorge, there are signs and directions with an accuracy of 100 m

Road to Kjerag - Highest point

It rises to a height of 1100 meters above sea level, but most tourists, including us, of course, are attracted by the fault in its northern part, with a precipice reaching 984 m. From this place there is an impressive view of the blue waters of Lysefjorden. Right next to it is Kjeragbolten, a boulder with a volume of 5 m³ wedged between two rocks. On the other side is Preikestolen.

Road to Kjerag - Some sections require pulling up

Pulling up and down very steep rock slopes. The capture of Kjerag is demanding but not impossible. The adventure begins at the parking lot in Øygardstøl. Talk to the parking staff about current conditions, they will provide you with all the information you need before your hike. Be especially careful in case of rainy weather, then the trail is extremely slippery.
