Ban on the sale of machetes in Oslo. Increasing crime in Oslo prompted city councilor Raymond Johansen to come up with the idea of banning the sale and possession of machetes in Oslo. The councilor emphasizes the fact that in many shops in the capital of Norway, machetes are sold as garden tools. In his opinion, this is a very disturbing trend, as this tool is a weapon in various criminal events. Will the ban come into force? If yes then when?

Machetes are banned in Norway - a tool used in fights

Councilor Raymond Johansen justifies the ban with the number of crimes - precisely with the use of this tool. Several crimes with the use of machetes in recent months:

  • In January this year, a fight in the Linderud district, in which an ax and machete were used as weapons.
  • In February, the machete was used in a bloody fight between young people in the Tøyen neighborhood.
  • In September, eight men were convicted of machete assault.

“We know knives are one of the most used weapons in the gang environment. The knife is easy to get hold of and hard to spot. The most common type of knife recently has been the machete. I think it is unacceptable that machetes are sold without age restrictions both on the Internet and in stationary stores. Johansen for Nettavisen.

Czy ban on the sale of machetes in Oslo it's a good idea?

Oslo machete ban - Labor wants concrete changes!

It turns out that the Labor Party came up with the idea of a ban selling machetes in Oslo already last year - in the autumn and winter, when the above-mentioned youth crime began to increase alarmingly. Justice Minister Jøran Kallmyr (Frp) also emphasizes that the sales ban will not remove machetes from the streets.

Will the ban translate into a reduction in crime?

Not necessarily. It will still be possible to purchase a machete - for example online. As is the case with other illegal assault knives that are regularly ordered and imported into Norway. Ban on the sale of machetes in Oslo won't make itthat the problem will disappear permanently. However, any action that may in any way affect the safety of the inhabitants of Oslo and all of Norway is important.
