Report on the health of immigrants. We have important information in the field of medicine. The Institute of Public Health (Folkehelseinstituttet) has carried out a special health survey of immigrants. The report is based on data collected from 4339 people from 12 countries who have lived in Norway for at least two years. As it turned out, the Norwegian Polish community does not enjoy good health. The analyzes were mainly related to the psycho-emotional condition of the respondents. What else do we know from the report? How healthy are the Norwegians?

Report on the health of immigrants - Poles fight stress

As it turns out, Poles have the greatest mental health problems in the group of respondents. We are more susceptible to all kinds of diseases, sometimes weaker mentally. When using the phrase mental illness, we must realize that it is not about personality disorders or schizophrenia, but also (or perhaps most of all) all diseases that are already considered civilization diseases, such as:

  • anxiety,
  • obsessive compulsive disorders,
  • heart neuroses,
  • depressions
  • social phobias,
  • insomnia.

Stress at work, concern for tomorrow. Family and financial problems - finally, sometimes the work that we care about causes the diseases described above. If you see the first symptoms of the disease in your loved ones - do not wait, react and try to help.

An excerpt from the commentary to the report:

“For example, refugees from Somalia and Eritrea do not report many psychological problems, and among migrants from Poland, the percentage of people struggling with mental health problems is twice as high as in the entire population. We do not know the reason for this yet, but assume that it is based on long-term separation from close family and friends. This is something Norwegian medical staff should pay special attention to. - Marte Kjøllesdal from Folkehelseinstituttet and her commentary on the report.

Report on the health of immigrants - more cigarettes, no exercise

Results status report immigrants' health speak for themselves. Lifestyle and general physical activity have a huge impact on your mental and physical condition. According to statistics, immigrants exercise less than Norwegians and smoke more cigarettes. The opposite is true for alcohol. Surprisingly, Norwegians consume much more of it.

We are curious about your opinion. Are the survey results surprising?
