The amendment to the road traffic law signed! Andrzej Duda has just signed an amendment to the Road Traffic Act. Its main assumptions are that it introduces new driving rules. I am talking about driving "on a zipper" and about creating the so-called "Corridor of life". What does the amendment mean for drivers in Poland and when will it be implemented?

Amendments to the road traffic law - what do they mean?

The obligation to create a "corridor of life" and "zipper driving", contained in the amendment to the Road Traffic Act, is primarily intended to improve and shorten the waiting time for the arrival of emergency services. According to the new rules, vehicles that are in the extreme lane are obliged to pull aside as much as possible. Then the aforementioned "corridor of life" is created. Thanks to it, emergency service cars will be able to reach the place where they are needed much faster. This primarily increases the chance of saving the victims, e.g. in car accidents.

What penalties for drivers who will not comply with the new rules?

Amendment to the road traffic law. For now, the penalties for drivers who obstruct the passage of emergency services vehicles and therefore do not comply with the amendment to the Road Traffic Law are very high. A driver who does not comply with the above rules may be charged with a fine of up to PLN 500 and receive penalty points. However, it is worth emphasizing that when they change mandate tariffs and penalty points, penalties imposed for failure to comply with the above provisions may change. It is assumed that then the penalties may be higher.

What changes await drivers in Poland?

When will the amendment to the Road Traffic Act come into force?

The last, very important issue related to the amendment to the road traffic law is when exactly it will come into force. According to the law, the time needed for the new regulations to come into force is 21 days. Thus, the new road traffic regulations will apply to drivers as early as December 2019.

The bitter truth about ourselves - are Poles good drivers?

Amendment to the road traffic law. Sometimes you have to face the truth. Make an examination of conscience. Are Poles good drivers? Yes and no. Unfortunately, despite the increasing number of programs, we still go too fast, many of us forget to look in the mirrors. The mere courtesy on the road also gives a lot to be desired. The truth is that when we sit behind the wheel, we must consider our own good, but also that of other road users. Let's not forget about it!
