A jury of around 40 international philatelists rated stamps from around the world in a variety of categories. 300 people from postal and philatelic organizations around the world were present at the Madrid Awards. The snow owl shown on the stamp are unique watercolors painted a few years ago by Ree. It is also worth mentioning here that the stamp was released in April last year and was part of a three-part series presenting birds. What did the creator himself say?

“The news of the grand prize came as a big surprise to me. For the first time, Norway won the first prize in this category. The project was commissioned by a man who wanted to give it to his wife as an anniversary gift. Now the original hangs at home. But I have the right to reproduce this photo up to 70 years after my death, ”Ree told VG.

The artist's previous works appeared on 23 other stamps. This one, however, gained nirsampling popularity. The award is important for the creator himself, but also for Norwegian culture.
