. Today is an important anniversary for all Poles. Also for us, the Norwegian Polish community. Independence Day was officially celebrated on November 11, 1937. However, this took place only for two years - the outbreak of World War II in 1939 unfortunately stopped the celebrations. In 1945, Independence Day was abolished for the duration of the occupation. Independence Day was restored only in 1989 under the name: National Independence Day. What is the history of this holiday? How do we celebrate it today?

The Independence Day is primarily to commemorate Poland regaining freedom in 1918, after 123 years of partitions. November 11 is of course a contractual date. Our country regained freedom through a process of important changes. It was not one specific day, but a series and a coincidence of many important events for our nation.
November 11, National Independence Day. How do we celebrate?November 11, as the Independence Day, established the pre-war Polish government. The authorities of the Second Polish Republic, as a distinction of an important day, which was the assumption of power in Warsaw by Józef Piłsudski. On November 10, 1918, Piłsudski returned to Poland and on the next day received the supreme command of the Regency Council over the Polish Army subordinate to her. This event also coincided with the ceasefire in Compiègne and the end of World War I. Independence Day is governed by the Act of April 23, 1937.

Independence Day celebrations are taking place in Warsaw. The president and other leading politicians, incl. Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz, laid wreaths in front of the statue of Wincenty Witos. Rota was sung together. Of course, Warsaw is not the only place where this day is celebrated. There are marches and parades throughout the country to commemorate the event that is important to all of us.

National Independence Day is an important day for all of us. This date should unite us, not divide us. We can celebrate them in many different ways that will be consistent with our values. This is a good day to spend time with your family. A walk with loved ones, lunch and coffee. Such moments connect.
