This decision was made by the Norwegian Medicines Agency. The reason for this and no other decision is the results of the latest research on this particular drug. These results say very clearly: during treatment with this drug, the risk of cardiovascular diseases is much higher than expected. Thus, the decision to issue Voltarol on prescription is dictated primarily by the well-being and safety of patients.
Since when is Voltarol only prescription?
Prescription Voltarol will be available not only in Norway. This drug, from January 202, will also be issued on prescription in Sweden. Unfortunately, the date on which this medicine will be available on prescription in Norway has not yet been made public. It is known, however, that all of the three available forms of the drug, including capsules, will be issued on prescription.

Voltarol is available only by prescription. Unfortunately latest statistics show that we, the inhabitants of Norway, use painkillers too often. This is a disturbing trend. Last year, Norway provided prescription painkillers to nearly 1,3 million Norwegians. This data was made public by the Prescription Register. These statistics are disturbing: The number of painkillers prescribed to Norwegians is constantly increasing. This trend is primarily related to the increasing consumption of paracetamol among Norwegians. As for paracetamol itself, in Norway it is sold both on prescription and over the counter. In the latter case, the number of packages sold amounted to nearly 30% of the total sales of this drug in Norway.
Prescription painkillers - watch out!
It is known that when something hurts us, the easiest way is to take a painkiller. However, this is not always a good solution. The consumption of painkillers should not be so high. Excessive consumption of painkillers in any situation, even if only minimally uncomfortable for us, may in the long run lead to addiction to them.
