. This event will certainly have a negative impact on the over 1000-year-old St. Mark's Basilica in Venice. Water entered the Basilica's vestibule. Currently, its level is 70 cm. This event is the result of too high a level of the so-called aqua alta that floods Venice. Currently, the aqua alta level is 127 cm. However, it is not certain that it will not be bigger. Venice underwater? We present you the most important information.

According to experts, the fact that the water got into the vestibule of St. Mark, will certainly have a negative impact on the over thousand-year-old building. Water losses mainly include flooded marble that has recently been replaced. When asked about safeguards against such situations, the administrator of the temple's property, Pierpaolo Campostrini, said that unfortunately they did not have the equipment that could protect the historic temple from such situations. At the same time, however, he assured that in connection with the forecasted rainfall, and thus - with the probability of a rise in the aqua alta water level, temple employees would monitor the situation on an ongoing basis. It was also ensured that the water would not break into the Basilica of St. Mark, all precautions at the disposal of Basilica staff will be taken.

. The fact that water entered the vestibule of St. Basilica Mark is the result of very intense and long-lasting rainfall that has been hitting Italy for several days. As the example clearly shows, water seeping into monuments can cause very serious losses. Renovation of monuments, including the one caused by water entering the Basilica of St. Mark's Square in Venice is a very expensive undertaking. It is necessary to take all precautions and follow the adopted standards regarding the renovation of monuments. Therefore, even a small amount of water, if it gets inside the monument, can cause very serious damage to the structure of the building.
