. There has been a lot of talk lately about ecology and the devastation caused by global warming. A clear and decisive shift towards green energy sources is needed. On the one hand, scientists are calling for care for planet Earth. On the other hand, the City Council planned to cut down a large part of the trees (including historical, old specimens) in the name of planned modernization and creation of a long bicycle path - in Langbølgen in Lambertseter in Oslo. According to people who decided on this matter, the trees did not allow for the creation of a transparent and safe path for users. This was met with great opposition from the local community. Over 1000 people signed the petition. What is the situation now?
Trees saved in Oslo - a pro-eco cycle path - a challenge for local authorities
The local community in the petition stressed that 50-year-old clones are very important to the city. Trees are monuments of history, trees provide us with oxygen, they make the city greener. It is pleasing to the eye, just beautiful. Activists called for another solution to be found that would allow the creation of a new recreational space without harming the environment. This is an important challenge that the initiators of the cycle path should face up to.
Trees saved in Oslo - in search of new solutions ...
The City Council agreed to the appeals and decided not to remove the old trees. Left-wing politician Hallstein Bjercke in Oslo is glad that the trees in Lambertseter have been saved.
Representative The Green Party Lan Lan Berg emphasized that everyone in the Party and important activists are looking for new solutions for the bicycle path - without generating losses.
– When a city is to be built, sometimes trees have to be removed. We assure you - of course we want to preserve as many trees as possible. That's why I would ask the Agency Environmental Protection The city to find a solution so that there is no need to remove trees in this specific location.
When will the bicycle path be built and what will it look like? We will certainly find out soon. We are waiting with interest for the final result.
